Laurence McGowan’s style, which uses images of plants and animals, speaks of his great interest in the Islamic decorative style. He trained with Pru Green at Alvington, and later with Alan Caiger Smith at Aldermaston. His use of brilliantly executed calligraphy means that he is often commissioned to make commemorative pieces, such as special plates to mark the 21st anniversary of the Antiques Road Show, and the Yorkshire County Cricket Club of the Year Trophy. He is a Fellow of the Craft Potters Association and a visiting Tutor at the Visual, Islamic and Traditional Arts Department of the Prince’s School. For all his considerable expertise, Laurence’s work remains modestly priced and extremely accessible. |
