Talk of symbolism in oriental carpets, and you are likely to stir up a hornet's nest of controversy! The question is whether rugs are just made up of pattern, or whether the patterns have meanings! This exhibition aims to look at what certain patterns may 'mean', and what some of the sources of these meanings are. It's a field of study littered with the corpses!
