The Nomads Tent at Westfield House

The Nomads Tent at Westfield House - 19th November to 28th November
After the great success of last years exhibition the Nomads Tent returns to the lovely home of John and Veronica Maclean with an exciting exhibition opening on Friday 19th November. There will be something to suit every pocket. For rug lovers a unique collection of oriental, decorative and tribal carpets, rugs and kilims has been gathered by The Nomads Tent from nomadic peoples living in Turkey, India, Iran, Afghanistan, and Morocco. The Exhibition includes an array of artefacts, textiles, jewellery and furniture and Christmas gifts with a difference. Visitors will feel that they have landed by magic carpet in the middle of an Eastern bazaar.
Rufus Reade, founder of The Nomads Tent, brought his first bales of kilims home from Turkey in 1983. 27 years later, The Nomads Tent continues to buy from ethical sources wherever possible.
Exceptional at this year’s show will be a collection of Gabbeh rugs from the Zagros mountains of southern Iran. They are woven by women of the Qashqai tribes and are magnificently colourful and strikingly modern yet come from a weaving tradition hundreds of years old.
There will be an Illustrated Lecture by Rufus Reade, who hosts well-researched specialist tours. His subject will be 'Ethiopia: Churches, Animals and Birds' on 23rd November at 12.30pm and 6.30pm Tickets cost £8 in aid of Children 1st. The talk will be followed by wine and nibbles. Please phone Veronica Maclean on (01343 547 308) to book seats.
